The German architect Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe applied his trade during the first half of the twentieth century yet his style and classic designs such as the iconic Barcelona Chair are still as popular and prevalent today.
Like many other influential furniture designers he started life as an architect and was firmly influenced by minimalist styling. He was firmly a progressive and modernist architect and helped shape many of Germany's landmark buildings of the time and was part of the highly influencial Bauhaus movement
Later in his life he emigrated to America and started to develop his own Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe furniture including the Brno Chair.
