Here at Interior Addict we offer a fantastic collection of Achille Castiglioni designer lighting for you to choose from.
Born on February 16, 1918 in Milan, Achille Castiglioni was the youngest of three brothers. In 1947, after having graduated in architecture from the Milan Politecnico back in 1944, he began working with his older brothers and participated in the organisation of the Triennale in Milan.
By the time the 50's came around, the Castiglioni brothers had cemented their commitment to the 'minimalist' design movement. Achille Castiglioni redesigned many everyday object, including the tractor seat stool 'mezzadro', the 'toio' lamp and the 'sella' chair, made of a bicycle seat. Castiglioni said of his design for the 'sella', "when I use the phone, I like to move around, but I also would like to sit, but not completely". These contemporary and minimalist designs drew upon the 'ready-made' artworks of Marcel Duchamp. Sadly, in 1968 the continuous and successful collaboration with his brother Pier Giacomo came to an end because of his death.
Achille Castiglioni received the Compasso d'Oro award 7 times, and we're proud to stock a great range of items "Inspired by" the original designer.
